Custom Shoe Orthotics Baltimore

Do you have a foot and/or ankle problem that requires a custom foot orthotic to relieve pain?

Corrective shoe inserts are commonly referred to as orthotics.  Orthotics are designed to redistribute pressure and realign foot joints.  Here at the Timonium Foot and Ankle Center we feature custom molded foot orthotics and ankle foot orthotics (ankle bracing).

Leading Expert on Custom Orthotics

Dr. Jordan Stewart, of Baltimore, makes a very high volume of custom foot orthotics and braces and is very experienced in treating a variety of foot and/or ankle conditions that require these devices.

Our orthotics are hand crafted, durable, and custom designed by our lab specifically for you and your condition.

Here are the answers to the most commonly asked questions about custom orthotics:

Why use custom orthotics as opposed to those found in a drugstore?

We compare wearing custom orthotics to wearing glasses.  If you are having trouble with your vision, you go to the eye doctor and get a specific prescription for your condition.

This is the same with custom foot orthotics.  If you have a foot problem, you should see a podiatrist and have a custom foot orthotic, which is a prescription device, made for your specific condition.  While you may be able to go to the local drugstore to get reading glasses, you certainly would not want these to be your everyday glasses.  The same is the case for custom foot orthotics.  Those found at the drugstore are distributed in mass quantities to fit the average foot and are not made specifically for you and your condition.  Over the counter orthotics are typically extremely flexible and tend to provide padding more than support.

What conditions can orthotics help with?

Orthotics have been medically proven to help with foot conditions and deformities that cause pain in your foot and/or ankle, leg(s), knees, hip(s), and back.  Orthotics can help with an assortment of soft tissue inflammatory conditions such as plantar fasciitis and tendinitis.  They can also be used in footwear to help prevent foot ulcers for patients with diabetes.

Here are some common conditions that custom orthotics can help with:

  • Plantar Fasciitis/Heel Pain/Arch Pain
  • Tendinitis
  • Bunions
  • Hammer toes
  • Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Neuromas
  • Diabetic Foot

How long does it take for custom foot orthotics and ankle foot orthotics to be made?

Once sent to our lab the devices are generally ready for you to wear in 3-4 weeks.

Can I use them in different shoes?

Prior to making the device, Dr. Stewart will discuss the shoes you would like to wear the orthotics in.  This will determine how the device is made.  Although orthotics can be made to wear in more than one shoe, it is best to wear them in a similar style shoe for proper fit.
